# Item modifications
A modification is a one-use module that improves **one specific item**. Modules are sold in **State Shop → Useful → Materials**.
## How to install one
1. Buy the module and keep it in your inventory.
2. Open inventory and find a compatible item.
3. In the Modifications section, select the module and press Install.
The module is consumed after installation. An item may have at most **two** modules. Modules cannot be installed on locked, incompatible, or quest items.
## Compatible modules
- **Optics module** — weapons only: accuracy +6, optimal range +2.
- **Reinforced frame** — weapon, armour, or transport: durability protection +12%.
- **Medical lining** — armour only: healing effectiveness +8%, maximum HP +8.
- **Cargo rack** — transport only: cargo capacity +15, local travel speed +3%.
- **Balance grip** — weapons only: damage +3, evasion +2.
- **Field processor** — compatible equipment or armour: repair quality +5%, navigator capacity +8.
## Exceptions
**Rakes** are starter melee weapons. **Marek’s Repaired Spade** is quest equipment for an extra pocket: farm work speed +8% and resource yield +2%. Neither item accepts modifications. When there is no compatible module, the Modifications section is hidden in inventory.
## Cost and binding
In addition to the module itself, installation costs **10% of the item price, with a 100 Silver minimum**. The bonus applies only to the exact instance where the module was installed and never transfers to matching items. Selling an irreparably broken item destroys its modifications with it. Accuracy, damage, range, HP, healing, and evasion bonuses apply in battle while the modified item is equipped. Broken equipment grants no bonuses.
